OATES, Grace Monica (née Veysey) - After a lengthy illness, in London, Ontario, on Thursday, April 6, 2017, at the age of 95 years. Born and raised in Bristol, England. Beloved wife of Reverend Kenneth (1919-2003) for 55 years. Much loved mother of Julian & Anne, Judith & Roy, and Andrew. Predeceased by her son Gregory. Dear grandmother of James & Terri, Janet, and David Luke, and great-grandmother of Emilia. Predeceased by her brothers Brian and Kenneth, of England, and by her half-siblings William, Elsie, Dora, and Millicent. Grace trained as a nurse and as a deaconess in Bristol, and worked at the university there during the second world war. After demobilisation she met and married Ken, and together they served the Methodist Church of England before immigrating to Canada in 1953 to serve United Church congregations in Nova Scotia, Woodstock, Ontario, and Toronto. Grace enjoyed singing in choirs, playing the piano, and, in her spare time, solving cryptic crossword puzzles. She also enjoyed many exotic travel adventures with Ken and the family. Donations in Grace’s honour may be sent to the United Church of Canada, Mission and Service Fund.
