SMITH, Betty - 1934-2016 - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and best friend. In her final days Mom was surrounded by her dear family and friends, and passed away peacefully on October 19th at the age of 82. Daughter to Lily Lee (d), niece to Maude Wilson (d), wife to John D. "Jack" Smith (d), Betty was proud most of all to be the World's Best Mom to daughters Teri; Lori and her husband Rob; to son Dan and his wife Erin; and a warm and loving grandmother to Ethan, Alex, and Ben. Born in Bradford, England, Mom lived in Woodstock for 77 of her 82 years, and her elegance and creativity were evident to all who knew her. She enjoyed many years as an inspirational yoga instructor, and had a natural flare for design, fashion and art that led to her position as manager of Norman Galleries. An avid reader and lover of world travel, Mom truly enjoyed a life well lived. She will be forever remembered for her kindness, positivity and grace, and left a lasting impression on everyone she encountered. A common phrase voiced by all who knew her was that "Betty Smith is the nicest person I have ever met". Her smiling eyes, gentle warmth, and full hugs will be missed but never forgotten as she embarks on her grand new adventure. A special word of thanks to the caring staff at Oxford Gardens, Betty's home for the past two years, and lasting gratitude to the Palliative Care team at Woodstock General Hospital. As a testament to Mom's generosity of spirit, she has donated her body to the University of Western Ontario Medical School for research purposes, and will be cremated. As per her wishes there will be no visitation or funeral. Instead, a gathering will be held in the Oxford Gardens Courtyard Lounge on Friday November 18th, from 1:30 to 4:30 pm. This is an open invitation to all who knew Betty, and would like to join us to share some stories, raise a glass, and celebrate this remarkable woman who shaped and touched our lives. Arrangements entrusted to SMITH-LEROY, 519-537-3611 . Personal condolences may be sent at www.smithleroy.com.
