She was 88 years of age, and had been afflicted with Alzheimer's Disease for 10 years. Her kindness, generosity and smile will be sadly missed by family, relatives, friends and acquaintances.
Theresa was born on Oct 20, 1931 in Csatalja, Hungary. In her youth she was active in sports and loved to help-out in the family-run variety store. She immigrated to Canada in 1948 with her mother Lena and brother Steve. In 1951, she married Joseph (Joe) Hutter in Woodstock, ON, where they resided together and raised a family for 44 years, until his death in 1996. During this time, she loved spending winters with Joe at their second home in Cocoa Beach, Florida, where they often hosted Ontario guests.
Theresa is survived by her 3 children Marilyn, Victor (Patricia) and Alfred (Evalina), her 7 grandchildren Alexandra (David), Curtis, Amanda (Stan), Christine (Gary), Michael (Shannon), Steven (Stefanie) and Geoffrey (Lauren), and her 7 great-grandchildren Maylee, Cayden, Garron, Katie, Emily, Mitchell and Derek. She is also survived by her brother Steve Engardt (Ann), but predeceased by her parents Michael Engardt and Magdalena Engardt (nee Bischoff). Theresa was also the beloved aunt of Tim, Jim, Colleen, Tony, Lis and the late Eva.
Theresa will be forever remembered as the smiling face of Mike's Delicatessen, a small family business in Woodstock that she co-managed alongside her father for 4 decades. Theresa was an avid gardener and generously donated her time in support of the St. Mary's Parish Ladies Auxiliary in Woodstock. In 2013, she departed Woodstock and temporarily resided in the Yukon Territory before moving to her final home on Vancouver Island.
Cremation will take place in Port Alberni, BC, and her ashes will be returned to Woodstock, ON at a later date. In accordance with provincial health protocols, a memorial mass at the Woodstock Holy Trinity Parish is being arranged. The family will also be hosting a Celebration of Life in Kincardine, ON when provincial health restrictions have been safely relaxed. Memorial donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Society of Canada.
