Passed peacefully with the love of his family by his side at Sakura House, Woodstock on Friday October 4th 2019. Douglas "Doug/Coach" A. Johnston of Woodstock in his 84th year, beloved husband of Sandra A. (nee Desmond) Johnston for over 63 years. Dear father of Cynthia "Cindy" (William Jr.) Perras, Dr. James (Shelly) Johnston and Deborah Lawlor (Peter Tesluk). Loving grandfather to Kelly, Kristi, Kimberly, Tiffany, Michael, Brittnay, Conor, Logan, McKara, Reed, Rachele, Mackenzie and will be remembered by several great grandchildren. Loved brother in law of Michael Desmond and sister in law Patricia Desmond.
Doug proudly served his country as a Korean Veteran serving in the RCAF as a Navigator. He was the first Coach and General Manager of the Windsor Spitfires and the Oakville Blades in the early 70's taking the team as Ontario Champions to the Canada Games in Lethbridge, Alberta. He was a teacher, principal, University Professor, life educator and an avid listener. Doug was a co- owner/broker of C21 McClellan & Hilts and obtained his builders license. He was a Mason and a Legion member. Doug lived a full interesting and wonderful life, his way.
Friends and relatives are welcome to join the family at BROCK AND VISSER FUNERAL HOME for visitation on Tuesday October 8, 2019, from 6-8 p.m. at 845 Devonshire Ave., Woodstock, 519-539-0004. The funeral service will be held in the chapel on Wednesday at 11:00 am. A celebration of life and luncheon will be held immediately after at Doug and Sandra's home. An interment will take place in Norfolk Oakwood Cemetery, Simcoe.
