Passed away with his loving family by his side at home on June 17th, 2019. He is survived by his wife & love of his life, Frances (nee Lowther), daughter Jennifer (Jenny) and son Alexander (Sandy) and their spouses, Jeff Benham and Lynne MacDonald, and grandchildren, MacFarlane (Mac) Benham, Coleton Alexander Benham, Lucas Ian Benham and bonus grandchildren Ashley, Matt, Missy. Ian is beloved and will be missed by family-in-laws, many dear friends and the Village of Innerkip neighbours. He was a loving husband, Dad and Grandpa Mac, friend, brother in-law and father in-law. Born in Gateshead, UK, on May 16th, 1942, Ian immigrated to Canada at the age of 26 to begin a long, rewarding life. Predeceased by his parents Alister & Nancy MacFarlane. Ian retired from the Industrial Accident Prevention Association (IAPA) in 2005. He was an active Innerkip Lions Club member. He was a true humanitarian and advocated for respect, inclusiveness and the people's voice. He was elected to serve as a Kitchener Public Library Board Member and Waterloo Region District School Board School Trustee receiving many awards and recognition for his community leadership. Ian was passionate about fostering Lions Dog Guides (Dazzle), Newcastle United F.C., music (Bob Dylan) and travelling with his wife. A Celebration of Ian's Life will be held on Sunday July 28th 2019, 1pm - 4pm, Innerkip Community Centre, 695566 17th Line, Innerkip, Ontario. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Lions of Canada Fund for LCIF would be appreciated.
