As he lived his life, Dad left us quietly without fanfare. Born in Calgary, he was the oldest of 3 (Doug and Cecilia). Dad studied Civil Engineering at the University of Alberta (Edmonton) on scholarship. It was there that he fell in love with a young pre-meds student, Jeanne Gauld (2017), and the rest is history. They soon moved to Montreal where Jack worked at the Montreal Engineering Company (MONENCO). Dad's skills took him around the world building hydroelectric plants, including 4 years in Brazil.
Wonderful father to Kathy Randle (2004) (Hilary Armstrong), Barbara Randle, Beth (Don) Taylor, John (Renée) Randle and Carole Randle (Grant Lilley). Much loved Papa to 11 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Our father taught us about working hard and putting forth your best effort, being a volunteer, being honest and sticking with your values. He was cautious, thorough and thoughtful in all he did. He was an excellent Trivial Pursuit team member, an avid gardener, and a great companion for a walk. Dad took pleasure in simple things - a beautiful sunset, fresh powder on a ski run or trail, a breeze for a windsurf at Lac Millette, or a skate or swim at the lake. He took great pride in a well stacked woodpile or digging his compost into a garden. He and Mum travelled the world; he spent his 80th birthday in the Antarctic. He was highly principled and generous with both his wisdom and his resources. He was a gentleman and a gentle man.
Heartfelt thanks to Dr. Kocsis and the office staff, the staff of Woodstock Hospital, Secord Trails and Alexandra Hospital for your care and kindness.
A celebration of life will take place at Beth and Don's on Saturday July 20, 2019 from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m.
