SUTHERLAND, Daniel Harwood “Sudsy” - Born in Woodstock, Ontario on January 18, 1940 passed in his sleep on Friday, February 23 in his winter home in Sebring, Florida in his 79th year. Danny, a Woodstock resident all his life, was a man who lived his life to the fullest. He was an avid sportsman, fisherman and member ofthe community. His greatest achievement was that of a father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Danny wanted to be remembered as a family man. A dad who really loved his kids. He loved his family gatherings at his home where he would sit back with pride seeing the Sutherland generations surrounding him. Sudsy believed in contributing to his community and that he did. In October 2017 he was inducted in the Woodstock Sports Hall of Fame awarded the honour of Builder of Sport for his creation of the Woodstock Men’s Slowpitch League, which he started in 1987. Having served in the Canadian Navy, Danny was also an Executive member with the Oxford County Naval Veteran’s Association as a Director, overseeing activities like the Mother’s Day Kids Fishing Derby and the Sudsy and Brooksy Perch Fish Fry Lunch. Sudsy had many roles throughout his life. That of friend, mentor, and coach. Son, brother, uncle, and cousin. Dad, grandfather and great-grandfather. Life-partner and soul-mate. To know him was to like him, and to like him was to love him. Danny leaves behind his children Kurt (Anne) and Karen (Chris), his adoring grandchildren Katie (Paul), Craig, Hayden and Emma and his sweet greatgranddaughters Georgia and Sydney. Sudsy will be deeply missed by his best bud Jeff Brooks (Sheila), Jason, Jordan (Kelly) and Garret (Jackie) and their boys Jack and Liam. To the Brooks’ he was a friend, a father-figure, a mentor and a part of the family. As is common in 2018 Danny’s family was large and blended. Danny is also survived by his loving partner and love of his life Donna Bender. Sudsy embraced his blended family and will also be missed by Donna’s children Erin (Dave) and their kids Owen and Grace, and Dannie (Nicole) and their kids Jaiden, Emma, Caelyn and Gavin. Anne’s daughters and their families. Deanna (Jay) and Breanna. Angie (Mike), Dylen and Nathan. Tamara, Makynlee and Charlotte. Chris’s daughters and their families. Elisa (Leo), Kaitlyn, Morgan and Leo. Kristen (Jonathan), and Ethan. Nicole (Alan). Danny is predeceased by his parents Mel and Doris, his brothers Bob, Don and Clarey and his sister Barbara Briggs. Cremations has taken place.
