Dara-Jane started teaching dance at the age of 12. She then went to Ryerson for her theatre and dance degree. She taught dance, primarily ballet, in Woodstock Ontario for more than 25 years before moving to Fort McMurray with her family in 2012. She opened the successful Dara-Jane Jewer School of Dance in Woodstock in 1998. A number of her students went on to become professional dancers and others were accepted into national ballet companies.
After moving to Fort McMurray, she was hired by Macdonald Island Park to run their dance program. She spent two years there and the student enrollment went from 130 to 950. She was the main ballet instructor at Generation Dance Studio until the present.
In September 2017 Dara-Jane was diagnosed with brain cancer and passed away in Fort McMurray at the age of 54 on November 13, 2017.
Dara-Jane is survived by her husband Chris, her daughter Samantha, her son Jack and her father Win Jewer.
There will be a memorial service to celebrate her life on Saturday March 3rd at 2:00 PM for the many family and friends whose lives she touched. This will be at the Rock Community Church, 1140 Nellis Street in Woodstock, Ontario.
