DRENTH, Bert - September 29, 1934 - November 29, 2016 Went home to be with the Lord on November 29th, 2016. Bert passed very peacefully at his home in Stratford with his family at his side. Beloved husband of 59 years of Irene (nee Boersma). Dear and adored father of Marty Drenth and Sandy McCann (Raven and Brittany Petrie), Alyce Drenth and Phillip Murray (Natosha Mills), and Brian Drenth (2012) (Tash McCormick). Bert was the cherished brother of Annie Drenth (1999), Margreet & Wim Prinsen, Jannie Alberts (1967), Heiko Drenth (1983), Ada & Bert Huisman, Jan and Truus Drenth, all of the Netherlands. He was also the much loved brother-in-law of Gertie Bruins, Pete and Minnie Boersma, Nancy Linker, Ralph Boersma, Henk and Hennie Boersma, and Jerry and Louise Boersma. He will be dearly missed by many nieces and nephews both in Canada and the Netherlands. Bert and Irene resided and farmed in Embro for 50 years, during which time he was involved in many farming and community organizations. He was a very active member of the Christian Reformed Church in Stratford. He loved to sing and did so joyfully over the years as part of many different choirs. His beautiful bass voice will be missed by many. Bert loved to explore southern climates RVing throughout the US, cottaging in Temagami - making many life-long friends along the way. Bert, you touched the lives of many with your warmth, generosity, and kindness. You were a humble and selfless, loving man. Those who knew you would agree with the following sentiments expressed by a dear friend - "You have given us the gift of genuine friendship. We will always cherish the lessons you have taught us - not by instruction, but by example. Your genuine humility, your generous grace, your enduring strength, especially in support of others and your unqualified respect for people, without judgment, regardless of circumstance and amidst an otherwise chaotic world; these beacons of light that you have cast over us give us the challenge and the courage to be better people." We will miss you and are so proud of you for dealing with your illness with such fortitude, patience and grace. Friends will be received at the W. G. YOUNG FUNERAL HOME , 430 Huron Street, Stratford, Ontario on Sunday, December 4 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held at Christian Reformed Church, 190 Athlone Cres, Stratford, on Monday, December 5 at 10:30 a.m., with visitation one hour prior to the funeral service. Interment to follow in Avondale Cemetery, Stratford. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to Stratford/Perth Hospice Project through the funeral home. 519.271.7411 www.wgyoungfuneralhome.com
