PILGRIM, Robert Walter - January 3, 1930 - April 15, 2016 After a two year struggle with Lewy Body Disease, Bob passed away peacefully at St. Peter's Hospital in his 87th year. He will be sadly missed by his wife of 63 years, Sally (nee Hainsworth). Bob was a loving and proud father of 4 children, Dale Traversy (Tom) of Parry Sound, John (Cindy Steffy) of London, Alan of Vancouver, and Elaine Pilgrim-Susi (John) of Ancaster. He was a wonderful grandpa to Katie Donohue (Kevin), Claire Wettlaufer (Derek), Scott and Thomas Pilgrim, Michael, Nicholas and Caitlin Susi and Melina Gummow and great-grandpa to Morgan, Emma and Gibson. He was blessed to have a very close knit family that enjoyed spending quality time together. He is also survived by his sister Lynn Gapes of Marmora, sister and brother-in-law Diana and Bill Dougherty (Stoney Creek), and predeceased by his sisters June Lawson Rennick and Ruth Murray. Bob enjoyed a long and successful career in education. He possessed a strong work ethic and excelled in all his endeavours. He began as an Elementary and Secondary teacher with the Board of Education for the City of Hamilton and from 1962-1966 Bob was a Master at the Hamilton Teachers College. He then became an Inspector of Schools and Special Education for the Ontario Ministry of Education before moving to Woodstock to complete his career as Superintendent of Schools and Special Services for 17 years with the Oxford County Board of Education. Bob worked tirelessly to improve the educational programs and learning opportunities for students with exceptional needs. In 1977 Bob was honoured to receive the Queen Elizabeth 25th Anniversary Silver Medal Award for his outstanding service and dedication in the education of Exceptional Students in Oxford County and in the Province of Ontario. Bob was a long-time member of the Masonic Lodge of the Ancient Landmarks as well as the Rotary Clubs of Woodstock, Burlington and Parry Sound. He loved to golf, curl, play bridge and spend his summers at his Parry Sound cottage. He always loved sharing a favourite story, with great details, to his friends and family. Special thanks to the caring staff at St. Peter's Hospital on both the Yvonne and Lincoln Terraces. So many of your thoughtful deeds and kind words helped us along this difficult path.
