PILKEY, Dorothy Jean - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother Dorothy Pilkey (Ronson), on Thursday July 30, 2015. Dorothy was the mother of Richard Pilkey (Susan), Dennis Pilkey (Bonnie), Terry Sherman (Tim), and Tammy Day (Gord). Predeceased by our father Morris Pilkey (July 30, 1994). Dorothy was the daughter of Arthur and Cora (Edmonds) Ronson. She was the last of her brothers and sisters to leave this earth: Orloff and Merna Ronson, Jim and Dorothy Ronson, George and Kate Ronson, Marjorie and Stan Gillibrand. She was also predeceased by grandson Christopher Pilkey, brothers-in-law Glenn Pilkey, Keith Pilkey, and sister-in-law Jean Allin. She leaves behind her grandchildren Carey-Sue, Roger (Carrie), Bill (Kim), Laura (Peter), Stephen (Tanya), Stephanie, Aimee (Danny), George (Lou), and 13 great-grandchildren Courtney and Cody Day, Kyle Black, Megan and Leslie Roth, Tyler, Wesley and Kate Pilkey, Rosie, Lily and Ryman Day, Ally and Ethan Pilkey, Meghan Goodwin. She is survived by her very dear cousin and our aunt by choice Jeannette Buchanan, also her sisters-in-law Adena Pilkey, Isabell Pilkey, brother-in-law Irvin Allin, and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Dorothy was the mail carrier for 30 years for Route 1 Burgessville, where she did her job faithfully, allowing all of her children to join with her and learn the value of hard work. Every mother around Burgessville knew where their children were because they were at her house. She was also an active community person who liked to involve others in fun projects, especially activities that encouraged children to join in, such as an annual Easter egg hunt, the annual Pilkey Picnic, and various other occasions. She was very much a party person and lived and loved to have people at the kitchen table. Her involvement with the church was extraordinary and after her retirement was often seen visiting shutins, cooking, or baking delicious cakes for different occasions. At church she was a group leader and served the church as Deacon. It wouldn't be quite right to portray our Mom as a saint - she wasn't. None of us are. She believed in right and wrong, black or white. You always knew where you stood with Mom. She either liked you or she didn't. That's just the way it was. You could never describe her as wishy washy. She has instilled in us kids the need to help others, be as kind as you can and to love the Lord. No greater gifts could a mother leave behind. No more pain, Mom. Your work on earth is done. Friends will be received at THE ARN-LOCKIE FUNERAL HOME , 45 Main St. W., Norwich (519) 863-3020 on Tuesday 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. Funeral service to honour Dorothy's life will be held at Burgessville Baptist Church on Wednesday August 5, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. John Caswell officiating. Interment to follow at Burgessville Baptist Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to Alzheimer Society or Burgessville Baptist Church.
