GOULD, Dr. Lawrence George - September 27, 1921 - Disley, Saskatchewan - July 2, 2015 - Calgary, Alberta. Dr. George Gould beloved husband of the late Marion Gould, passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 2, 2015 at the age of 93 years. From an agricultural background, George became a herdsman on a dairy farm. In December 1941, George enlisted with the RCAF in London, Ontario. During WWII, he served as combat Air Crew, 2nd Tactical Airforce with 98 Squadron, R.A.F. and completed one Air Crew Europe Operational tour of 50 trips across the channel. Following his discharge from RCAF he attended the Ontario Veterinary College, graduating as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1950. He founded the Pavey Street Veterinary practice for small and large animals in Woodstock, Ontario. In 1960 he joined the Federal Government, Health of Animals Branch, servicing Woodstock, Athabasca, and Waterloo. In 1975 he relocated to Calgary where he became Alberta Regional Veterinarian. George directed the testing for the eradication of Tuberculosis and Brucellosis for the National Herd, and worked as Acting Veterinary Director for Canada. A good, honest man who loved his family, George was a loving and faithful husband, and caring father. He was well respected professionally and a role model for us all. George was an active member of his community and church wherever he lived. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion #264, Medium Bomber Association, and the Southern Alberta Aircrew Association. An avid crib player, George enjoyed a good laugh. Predeceased by his loving wife Marion on January 3, 2015; his parents Lawrence in 1960 and Taddy in 1959; and brother Mac in 1960. He will be missed by: his five children, James (Wendy) of Chandler, Arizona, Robert of Calgary, Barbara McKellar (Kenneth) of Ingersoll, Ontario, Susan Casey of Calgary, and Paul (Erica) of Nelson, BC; his siblings, Joseph of Kamloops, BC and Mildred Luckham of Ingersoll, Ontario; his grandchildren, Graham of Chandler, Arizona, and Keith of San Diego, California, Cheryl Pachal of West Kelowna, BC and Lyla Gould of Nelson BC; his great-grandchildren, Charlotte and Evelyn. Dad: you epitomized honour, respect, loyalty, and cared about everyone you met. You inspired all of us to be better people. You are a loss to our family and our communities. Heartfelt thanks to the Special Services and "Yellow" Teams at Foothills Hospital, as well as his friends at the Colonel Belcher and Edgemont Retirement Centre. Funeral services will be held at Old St. Paul's Church Woodstock Ontario on Wednesday July 8, 2015 at 3:30pm, Interment to follow at Oxford Centre Pioneer Cemetery.
