DOUGLAS , William Blair - William Blair Douglas, C.A., passed away peacefully on Friday, May 29, 2015 at Woodstock Hospital with his loving wife of 58 years, Marilyn (Weir) at his side. Blair will be greatly missed by his children Wendy (Ian) Ness-Jack, Robert and Michael, his grandchildren Blair, Shannon and Brian Ness-Jack, all of Woodstock, and his many nieces, nephews and friends. Blair was born on June 2, 1935, the only child of Bill and Etta Douglas. His parents also raised his older cousin Maurice Brown (Mona), currently of California. He attended Chapel and Central Schools and WCI where he was the valedictorian for the graduating class of 1954. Immediately after, he began his career as a Chartered Accountant with the firm of McCormack, Barker, Wesbrook & Winlaw, later known as Douglas, Hostetler & Dawber and then Hyde Houghton. He retired from accounting in 1994. Until recently he worked part-time as a financial advisor with Investment Planning Council. The community of Woodstock was important to Blair and he gave generously of his time to many local organizations such as the OA Club, founding member and long-time treasurer of St. David's United Church, long-time treasurer of the Woodstock Chamber of Commerce and the Woodstock Figure Skating Club. As the auditor for the local branch of the Canadian Mental Health Association in the 1980's and 90's he enabled the organizations to stay in operation and thus to help many in our community. He also served on the Board of Directors for Maplewood and later was instrumental in seeing the Highway 403 extension through to Woodstock. Blair loved to drive his 1967 red mustang convertible and to travel, especially in his RV, and to the Caribbean. He will be remembered for his honesty, loyalty and commitment. At his request, cremation has taken place. Friends and family are invited to share their memories of Blair on Thursday, June 11 from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. (with a brief tribute at 4:00 p.m.) at Craigowan - Oxford Golf & Country Club. Interment at a later date at Innerkip Cemetery. If you wish, donations may be made to WDDS (Woodstock District Developmental Services), CMHA Oxford or Woodstock Hospital.
