CHADWICK, Ruth - At Woodstock General Hospital on July 31,2014, Wilma Ruth Chadwick in her 91st year. Ruth was predeceased by her sisters Helene Ward of Simcoe, Jean Burness of Chatham, and brother Leslie Chadwick of Vittoria. She is survived by nephews, nieces, and second cousins who have annually looked forward to celebrating Aunt Ruth's birthday and an excuse to gather for a family reunion, since her move to Langdon Retirement Villa in Woodstock, in 2009. A member of the 1945 Graduating Class of St. Joseph's School of Nursing , Hamilton, Ruth began her Registered Nursing career at Norfolk General Hospital, Simcoe. In 1956 Ruth was certified as a Registered Record Librarian by the Canadian Association of Medical Librarians and continued in this new role at Norfolk General for seven years. In 1955 she became the first Credited Record Librarian at Woodstock General Hospital. According to the book, A Tradition of Caring, a history of Woodstock General Hospital 1895 - 2007, Ruth "was affectionately known as 'white lightning' because of her speedy and efficient way in handling assignments". In 1983, Ruth returned to her home in Vittoria to finish out her nursing career at Valley Heights High School, Langton, for 4 years, and later worked occasionally in nursing homes in Hagersville and St. Williams. Ruth will be remembered for her professional dedication to nursing, her unselfish generosity, her determined self-reliance, and a touch of stubbornness and a terrific aunt. Never one to complain; willing to state a concern; and ready to get on with life; Ruth had a very positive outlook on life endearing her to all who got to know her. She will be dearly missed by those of us who had the privilege of meeting this petite lady with a goliath stance tackling life's challenges. At Ruth's request, a private family interment will take place at Woodhouse United Church Cemetery with Pastor Marc Bertrand officiating. There will be a celebration of Ruth's life at the VITTORA TOWN HALL on Saturday September 6th, 2014 from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. If so desired, memorial donations may be made to the Norfolk General Hospital, Woodstock General Hospital or a charity of your choice. Arrangements are entrusted to The FERRIS FUNERAL HOME , 214 Norfolk Street, South, Simcoe, Ontario. 519-426-1314. Online condolences may be made at www.ferrisfuneral.com
